I think they regularly migrate through this area, just don't usually stop at small ponds; usually big lakes, if they stop at all. Last week my son saw one on a pond at Lajitas too. Mine didn't hang around more than an hour. Just probably nabbed a few small fishes, or whatever they eat, and was on his way
