Here is the only photo I took yesterday before heading to Alpine.
That Summer Tanager spent the whole previous day gorging on mulberries. The photo doesn't show it, but there are tons of them ripe. Should be a great week or two. This impending cold front will bring the birds in.

Beautiful! Love hearing about all that's happening at CMO, just wish you weren't dealing with the freeze scares.

Oh, PS, I didn't now Summer Tanager's ate mulberries. I have a mulberry tree in my back yard, no berries yet though. I'm quite a bit higher on the latitude than you. Flocks of Cedar Waxwings spend days feasting on the tree in my yard. They'll be here soon, usually arrive in May!

I think most birds like mulberries. One year I had so many waxwings that I feared the tree would be picked clean by them before the warblers, thrushes, and tanagers arrived, but there were still plenty left. The White-throated Sparrows are eating a lot of them too, which I wish they weren't.
Thanks. I won't know if it freezes there tonight other than if I see frost damage when I get down there Thursday morning, but we're not predicted to get that cold. We covered the tomatoes here in Alpine just in case, though.
How many Mulberry trees do you have?
I've seen Mockingbirds eat Mulberries here. Once the tree here starts getting berries, I'm going to keep a log on what I see. You inspired me!
