Scratching the itch

Stuck in Alpine and craving to go look at odes. So I went to a couple of water holes west of Alpine. Things are really dry and very little water. Both had about the same diversity, which was less than our ponds in town. Here are the things I photographed that were interesting to me.

Common Mullein (Verbascum thapsus)

Arizona Mountain-Pink (Zeltnera arizonicum)

Unknown beetle near mud puddle
Crane Fly (thanks Brian for the ID)

UPDATE: A blog follower got the beetle ID'd as a Tiger Beetle (Cicindela ocellata). Thanks Marlin.
