Come Dasher!

I was so hoping that Three-striped Dasher would still be here today when Kelly was, but it was not to be. He did find me a new oasis ode today, though not a lifer. I've seen it a lot at Lajitas but never here. A Four-spotted Pennant.

We started out the day banding at Lajitas in the early morning coolness. Here's a lovely flower bed from there. It was too early for butterflies to be out, unfortunately.

Since I don't have any other interesting photos from today I'm going to post a Blue Dasher, photographed on the same perch today as I photographed the Three-striped yesterday. I wanted a size comparison. Based on these photos, I'd say they're about the same size. I didn't remember the exact spot I stood to take the photo yesterday, but this is pretty close. Top is Blue Dasher; bottom is Three-striped Dasher.

According to the book, Blue Dasher is 28-45mm and Three-striped is 35-41mm, so they could easily be the same size. The abdomen on the Blue Dasher actually is blue, but the light reflection makes it look white on the above photo.
